Scylla and Charybdis

Objectives:
-Demonstrate mastery of vocabulary words through an illuminate quiz
Create an original narrative focusing on POV, sensory imagery, and dialogue

Agenda:
-Bellwork vocab prompt:  "Six Again"
-Turn in Bellwork vocab story packet/The Odyssey Vocab quiz #2:
-Scylla and Charybdis Pre-Reading Activity on Google Forms
-Whole class activity: Read and annotate Scylla and Charybdis  
-Complete Scylla and Charybdis Post-Reading via Google Classroom

HW:
All:  Read and Annotate “The Cattle of the Sun God”. Highlight for vivid diction and detail and make notes next to each stanza. The part I packet is due tomorrow.

Honors: Honors Motif entry #4 due Friday 5/3. The extra novel exam is on Monday 5/6. Closed book exam. The only notes you can use are your Motif entries.





The Sirens

Objectives:
-Respond to a prompt utilizing vocab words from the Odyssey
-Describe a childhood memory using show-not-tell writing and sensory imagery by writing a paragraph

Agenda:

-Using words from section II of the Vocabulary packet and  Bellwork vocab prompt: "Conversation" write a Bellwork vocabulary story.
-“The Sirens" pre-reading with Sirens Images
Read and annotate  "The Sirens"
-Complete The Sirens packet along with Atwood's "Siren Song"

HW:
-ALL: Study for tomorrow's Vocab test #2
-Honors Journal #3 due tomorrow 4/30
-Honors-Extra novel written exam next Monday, 5/6/19, closed book, the only notes you can use
are your Motif entries.

The Land of the Dead

Objectives:
-analyze diction to determine tone and mood in “the Land of the Dead”
-Utilize diction to retell a  story and establish tone and mood

Agenda:
-Bellwork vocab prompt Flight Vs. Invisibility Remember to use two-three vocabulary words in each bellwork and to write at least half a page.
-Read “The Land of the Dead” and complete The Land of the Dead worksheet

Finish "The Cyclops" and "The Witch Circe"

Objectives:  Practice writing dialogue and looking for indirect characterization in The Odyssey

Agenda:
-Read and annotate “The Cyclops”, looking for Odysseus’s characteristics. Use a different colored highlighter for each of the five characteristics.
-Read and annotate "The Witch Circe" and complete the assignment on Google Classroom
-Revisit TKAM essay revision to make sure revised portions are highlighted

I am Laertes' Son

Objectives:  Construct an original boasting poem

Agenda:
-If you didn't receive a stamp from me yesterday, turn in the Queen Penelope-Indirect Characterization worksheet, Coach Watkins will initial the upper left corner if it is complete.
-read and annotate “I am Laertes’ son” as a class.  Please annotate parts where Odysseus brags about himself.
- Where I'm From poem, both the worksheet and the final draft must be completed and is DUE TODAY.

1. Watch the video by clicking on this link: Student Universal Tools for ICA

After you watch the video, log in to Google Classroom to complete the Student Universal Tools Video Questions assignment.   Remember to submit it when you're done. This is a 15 point participation assignment.

2. Using the handout “Calypso, the sweet nymph”, analyze the following: Calypso Image Complete the Visual Literacy Practice on the “Calypso, the sweet nymph”  worksheet. Afterward, share your writing with your table group and vote on the best one, each table should nominate only one person as the winner.  

3. Read as a class, “Calypso, the sweet nymph”.  After every stanza, annotate the plot in the margins. Additionally, look for sensory imagery, please use yellow to highlight the sense of sight, use pink to highlight the sense of sound, use orange to highlight the sense of smell.

4. After reading and annotating the story, complete the Calypso, the sweet nymph”  worksheet packet.  Whatever isn't complete in class will be tonight’s homework.  I will check this on Thursday.
