CP: During Tom Robinson’s testimony, he says, “I felt right sorry for her” (Lee 197). How does this statement affect the jury’s impression of Tom? Consider who is on the jury and also consider the social classes in Maycomb (i.e. white people can look down on blacks, but not vice versa). Write a paragraph.

H: Discuss what Scout recognizes about the town of Maycomb that she observes while Tom is on the stand, “Maycomb gave them Christmas baskets, welfare money, and the back of its hand. Tom Robinson was probably the only person who was ever decent to her. But she said he took advantage of her and when she stood up she looked at him as if he were dirt beneath her feet” (Lee 192). Write a ½ page response.
